So it may be that I don't have a hernia after all. My doctor sent me to see the doctor that would do my operation and he wants to wait. He said it may be that I pulled something, tore at the muscle but he didn't feel a hernia.
I'll take that as good news. It's tender but feels better than it had. Thanks for the well wish emails and the advice.
I'm home for a few weeks. I'm going to record some songs for daveudrums.com and I'd like to teach. Anyone want a lesson? We start by stretching. Oh and I'll make some more progress writing The Hooters 30. You gotta learn about the beauty and the terror.

Well I intended to blog everyday last week but my body saw to it that it became my focus. I discovered, painfully so, that I had a hernia the day after our first show. I was walking to the hotel from our bus and my body just said it was time to stop. I couldn't move. Man I was trying to climb this walk way with a bit of an incline and my legs weren't having any of it. What do you do? I didn't know it was a hernia until Joe MacFadden The Hooters tour manager took me to the hospital. Joe's the best when any thing like this happens he is Johnny on the spot and gets it look after. I had 4 doctors poking at me and they informed me I had a hernia. I thought they were going to wheel me in for surgery right there. My respect for Donavon McNabb went to whole new level. Getting chased around with that condition must have been a nightmare. So that's my excuse for not doing the do's as I promised. I'll get this taken care of and we are out in a few weeks I will give it another shot.
The shows were some of our best. It was fun playing Great Big American Car again. I think we finally do it justice. It was also cool getting to meet and hangin' with Ian Paice. I grew up such a fan of his playing. He still hits it and is as solid as can be. It's inspiring.
I'd like to get some feedback. What do you think? I'm writing about my soon to be 30 year experience with The Hooters. I thought my perspective may interest some Hooters fans. I'm looking for a publisher that might like this non fictional account how Hooterization really got started. The Hooters dance contest at of legendary show venue Grendel's Lair.
The bands mates past and present.
They were all great. I hope to have something in the can by spring of 2010, maybe sooner. Any interest in reading my account?

UGH! I'm doing my best to blog some about our little jaunt over to Germany this week. We got in to Hamburg on Monday. Had the day off. A few of us went over to the BOK for dinner and Johnny Salvo I did a little hangin' in the Reeperbahn. So lets get to where I'm at right now. I just finished dinner backstage. We play in a couple of hours. We worked up a cool version of Great Big American Car from the record Out of body. We are playing newly written song. It's doesn't make sense for me to give you a working title since it'll morph to something different by the time we record it for real. I'm playing a killer DW kit. Its jet blak laq with speckled sparkles. its a 24' bass drum with a 9000 DBL pedal. Using straps. Just cause. a 12" rack tom and a 16" floor tom. A 22' Zildjian ride 18" medium crash and 17" crash". 14' dyno beat. JUst cause.
Bored yet?

Last week was a different kind of week. Graham Alexander, son of Fran Smith Jr. Flew out to my place to cut some rhythm tracks for his upcoming CD. I saw Alex in Rain, the play on The Beatles. Alex plays an amazing Paul. Has all his mannerisms down . Probably the weirdest thing about working with Alex is I remember him when he just a baby. If you can see Rain go.. It's really cool if you are a Beatles fan or not.
I also recorded with another phenom last week. Jonathan Blake. This guy will make some noise. Taras one of my favorite bass players and I were on the session. Taras played with Dwight Yockum when I thought he had the baddest band on the planet. So that session was fun for me. Headed to Europe for a few days in June with The HOOSIERS..THE HOOTERS.
